Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we experience, often when change, loss or trauma occurs. We all experience these feelings at some point in our lives. Counseling and psychotherapy can help you recover motivation, perspective, and the sense of security that you once had. An assessment of the thinking patterns that have influenced your perspective, helps develop a flexible and resilient attitude to change.
Many people continue to feel the emotional impact of painful or traumatic experiences long after the event has passed. This can show up as anxiety, nightmares, ongoing unease, fear, emotional numbness, or a sense of hopelessness.
In some cases, trauma is minimised or pushed aside as “just part of life,” leaving its effects unresolved.

In some cases, trauma is minimised or pushed aside as “just part of life,” leaving its effects unresolved.
Trauma can affect us in different ways and at different stages of life. Symptoms may appear immediately or emerge months or even years later. These responses can follow experiences you lived through, events you witnessed, or situations encountered through your work or caregiving role.
Therapy offers a safe and supportive space to explore how trauma has affected you. Together, we can build practical tools for emotional regulation, increase understanding of your responses, and gently process difficult memories at a pace that feels right for you. With support, it is possible to reduce symptoms, regain a sense of control, and move forward with greater stability and self-compassion.

Therapy works well in person and face to face. Many medical appointments are now on the phone or online, so people may feel that is convenient. Some are experiencing isolation with empty offices, and the increase of working from home. The provision of face to face sessions may be an important step to recalibration. Sessions can be booked at consulting rooms at The Gestalt Centre St Pancreas Road Kingscross.
Choosing online and telephone therapy?
Counseling online might feel easier for you, This can be beneficial to those who are busy with work, and unable to travel to sessions. Online sessions are held from the safety of your own home at a time that is convenient for you, just email to check availability. It’s important you cannot be overheard and have privacy, plus a good internet connection
If you feel you would benefit from looking at your history and experience and how this affects the way you feel, then working in a psychodynamic orientated way could help you. Psychotherapy explores the walls we have built or the attitudes we have taken in response to difficulties. These defences might need a new look, or a different perspective.
It can also be useful incorporating meditation skills if required, with active imagination and dream work.
By exploring the symbols in our dreams, we gain refreshing insight and clarity into the symbolic mysteries alive in ourselves.
C.G. Jung believed that we contain within us a regulating self that manifests in dreams.
We will be working at your pace, in a face to face, client led exchange. Sometimes self development and homework projects might be suggested including; inner work and reading.
This approach is further informed by understanding of unconscious processes including transference, counter-transference, defences, projections and introjections.
Solution focused shorter courses of therapy, with a particular problem in mind. Cognitive Behavioural therapy is co-operative, precise and goal orientated.
Offering support to make specific changes, targeted according to the individual clients needs.
We will be working together towards solutions for specific issues that are affecting your life today, using negative automatic thought charts, targets, homework and information.
The therapy requires a belief that changing your thinking, will lead to healthier emotions and behaviour, creating improved self esteem and relief of symptoms.
One important aspect of self-acceptance is the ability and willingness to let others see one’s true self. Living mindfully entails living daily life without pretence and without concern that others are judging one negatively.

Trauma-Focused Therapy is an up to date evidence based therapeutic approach that acknowledges and explores how past traumatic experiences can affect an adult's mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. This type of therapy helps individuals understand the connection between their trauma and their current emotional and behavioral responses. The goal of trauma-focused therapy is to provide individuals with skills and strategies to better cope with and process their emotions and memories related to their traumatic experiences, ultimately helping them create a healthier and more adaptive understanding of their past.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a type of therapy that helps people process and heal from distressing memories and experiences. It works by focusing on a specific memory while using bilateral stimulation—such as guided eye movements, sounds, or tapping—to help the brain reprocess the memory.
During EMDR, the memory isn’t erased, but the emotional intensity connected to it often decreases, so it becomes easier to think about without feeling overwhelmed. This process can help reduce symptoms like anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and physical tension, and can support a sense of resolution.
EMDR is widely used for trauma, but it can also help with anxiety, phobias, grief, and other emotional difficulties. The pace is guided by you, and we work together to ensure it feels safe and manageable.
